Why I love my camera

The painting gallery is up finally.  Some of the paintings also have details.  This camera takes reallyawesome pictures of my paintings so I can finally have something decent up on a portfolio website.  I also took all of my pictures in Korea with it (and they turned out great, didn’t they?)

I’m really pleased with my camera. It’s a Sony Cybershot DSC-W170.  It’s a subcompact digital, which isn’t what somebody should use as an ‘artist’ because it’s all automatic and has no lens options. However I purchased it because of my trip to Korea.  At the time I thought I wouldn’t want to bother lugging around a huge SLR everywhere, and that if I did I would end up never taking any pictures.

This little guy is tiny, but it takes 10.1 megapixel pictures which is still pretty competitive even for a larger camera.  It has lots of options including a high ISO range at night, and even smile-detection software.  Not to mention I didn’t have to install any irritating software in order to get the pictures onto my hard drive.

As a note to wannabe photographers in Seoul:
Even though I didn’t want to wear an SLR around my neck everywhere looking like a total tourist, it turns out I look like even MORE of one with a subcompact- that’s because SLR cameras are fashionable in Seoul!  Tons of people carried them around like fashion accessories.  Thusly if you are actually interested in purchasing one, you can easily find the last model (still pretty new) at used stores in Namdaemun market for about half the price of new ones, and in good condition.  The secondhand market is totally flooded with cameras because people trade theirs in after they get tired of them, or want the latest model.
