Raccoon Mountain campgrounds
Our first overnight stay was at Raccoon Mountain Caverns in Chattanooga, TN. I knew ahead of time that we’d be stopping in Chattanooga for the night because one of our goals was to see Rock City, which we’d have to do in the morning. If not for the internet I wouldn’t have found this campsite. It is listed under “lodging” on the road signs, but I don’t know how likely I am to leave that kind of thing up to luck to find, and it wasn’t listed in our AAA travel guide. It was one of the cheapest in the area (not as cheap as the rustic sites on the Appalachian, but relatively)- $18 for a campsite with no electricity but full use of the bathrooms.
